| In November of 2001, Upper Columbia RFEG was awarded a
Salmon Recovery Funding Board grant of $13,854 for the Hancock Creek
Restoration project near Mazama. This project will provide an
alternative water source for a landowner. It also will involve
riparian fencing and planting and the construction of three
rock-bottom watering points for livestock. Hancock Creek is a very
cold tributary of the Methow River which provides spawning and rearing
habitat. Despite the cold water in summer there are off-channel
rearing areas which do not freeze in winter. This project is
coordinated with the replacement of undersized culverts on Wolf Creek
Road. The project will benefit endangered Chinook Salmon and Steelhead
Trout as well as Bull Trout.
